To all of my St. Louis friends and family, I have some very sad news to share. I hope that you are all sitting down for this (and please know that I am being overly dramatic and sarcastic here so no need to truly worry). I just heard some terrible news this afternoon. Our beloved and infamous Paul's Donuts and Ice Cream will be closing. I know, I know, it is hardly bearable, but please refrain from losing it. Supposedly it was bought out by another ice cream company so something WILL be in its place, however, as we all know, it will not ever be the same as Paul's.
Sigh.
To all of my other friends and family, before you think that I have completely fallen off of my rocker (which would not be surprising), Paul's Donuts and Ice Cream has history with us St. Louis folk. I grew up going to Paul's every Sunday morning with my dad to get donuts before church. Before my friends and I had drivers licenses we would walk to Paul's for ice cream. It was a cute little 'mom and pop' shop run by none other than Paul himself (he's a crazy character but we put up with him because his donuts are out-of-this-world). And, every time Scott and I would visit our folks in St. Louis, we would make it a point to stop into Paul's. We would just get into town and have a craving for those delicious-to-die-for donuts. I swear it was like a sweet-tooth version of "Cheers". Everyone from town went there and practically everyone knew your name (and even if you didnt know their name, you KNEW you had seen them there before at some point).
I know the news is traumatic but Paul's Donuts and Ice Cream will forever live on in our hearts. And, who knows, maybe if we all band together in prayer we could get some Paul's donuts on that big buffet table that heaven is going to have........yummy. ;)
